Cryo Storage RepositoryThe Biomedical Research Repository was established in 1977 to provide
researchers around the world with needed medical specimen archiving space. BRI
offers inventory and label printing services in addition to our
Our inventory services range from simple random quality control verification of newly received specimens, to a hand inventory of each individual specimen and creation of a database and inventory system. The created inventory data system is Emailed or mailed on diskette to the Principal Investigator. Simple quality control results of newly delivered specimens are faxed to the appropriate lab personnel. The Biomedical Research Institute (BRI) has been in medical research since 1968 and specimen storage repository services for nearly a quarter of a century. The repository consists of five warehouse bays, divided into three separate areas by "fire break" doors. The facility has three diesel generators capable of providing power to the entire repository in the event of power loss. Since the Washington Metropolitan area has exceptional utility companies, power is seldom interrupted for more than a few hours during the most severe storms. All specimens are stored in freezers that are connected to a 24-hour monitoring service. In the event of an alarm, a signal is sent to the monitoring company, who have been instructed to call our service technicians. BRI has service technicians on call 24-hours, seven days a week, and they are trained in complete freezer diagnosis and repair. The repair staff is also certified by the Revco freezer manufactures in cascade refrigeration service. In the event a freezer malfunctions, BRI keeps an adequate number of empty "back-up" freezers on-line to transfer the specimens into. In addition to the outside alarm monitoring, BRI also has an in-house central alarm that notifies all employees of an unacceptable temperature variation during business hours. The specimen storage facility is secured by automatically locking doors; access to the building is gained by ringing an outside buzzer and the doors are answered by BRI staff members. All guests to the repository must sign in and out and are escorted to their specimen freezer(s) for retrievals or deposits. Exclusive or limited access to specimens can be arranged by direction of the Principal Investigator to the Repository manager. In addition to the security of the entrances, the interior is protected by motion detectors and fire alarms. In our 25-year history, BRI has an unblemished track record, with exceptional service provided to multiple contracts consisting of more than five million specimens collectively. BRI currently has 32 contracts of varying sizes and service requirements. We are pleased to announce that we acquired a new long term contract in December of 1999 for the management of a large specimen collection that is projected to contain in excess of two million specimens within the next five years. Please contact BRI to get a complete list of our clients who are currently under contracted with BRI. In addition to the specimen storage, BRI offers customized retrieval services of individual specimens. Retrieval of specimens range from entire cryo boxes to individual tubes. FedEx is our preferred shipper due to their high-level of dependability. Our staff packages all shipments that leave the repository. Staff members that pack and ship specimens are certified for shipping hazardous and non-hazardous specimens for both national and international shipments. BRI is always available to provide information and guidance in the establishment of new inventory archiving efforts. Our many years of experience have shown us the most effective and efficient way to store specimens for long periods and maintain accurate records. Our pricing is done on a custom basis.
